About the University of Otago International Excellence Scholarships
The University of Otago is a public research collegiate university based in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. Founded in 1869, Otago is New Zealand’s oldest university and one of the oldest universities in Oceania.

Value & Duration of Award:
- Master’s degree: NZ$18,204 stipend per annum plus a tuition fee waiver for 1 year capped at the domestic rate for Master’s study (excludes student services fee and insurance)
- Doctor of Philosophy: NZ$32,544 stipend per annum plus a domestic tuition fees waiver for 36 months (excludes student services fee and insurance) Professional Doctorates (DClinDent, DMA, DBA, EDd) – NZ$32,544 stipend per annum plus a tuition fee waiver for up to 36 months capped at the domestic rate (excludes student services fee and insurance).

Eligibility Criteria for the Scholarship
- Be international students who are not citizens, permanent residents or resident visa holders of New Zealand or Australia; and
- Have met the entry requirements for an eligible programme; and
- Have met the award level for the scholarship; and
- Be subject to paying international tuition fees; and
- Be intend to commence full-time study in that programme

Undergraduate scholarships
The University of Otago undergraduate scholarship is open to all students globally and offers up to NZD $15,000 in scholarships to each student. To be eligible for this scholarship, each student must respond ‘yes’ to the international scholarship question during the eVision admission application steps.
Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships
This scholarship is worth NZD$10,000 and is strictly for tuition fees. This scholarship is open to all international applicants provided they select the yes option for scholarship at the time of submitting their admission application.
Postgraduate Scholarhip
This scholarship is open to international students commencing studies in selected postgraduate programmes (Master coursework degrees or postgraduate coursework diplomas) at the University of Otago. To benefit from this scholarship, applicant must be studying full-time with a course duration of at least two semesters, either on campus or by distance learning. The value of this scholarship is NZD$10,000.
