ISFAP Bursary | ISFAP Bursary Application Requirements and How to Apply 2026/2027

The ISFAP bursary program, specially designed for the missing middle class in South Africa, opens applications for students from high-demand fields of study within the country. Interested students who wish to participate in this bursary program for the 2026 academic year batch are to meet the requirements stated below and submit their applications online as soon as the portal opens.

About ISFAP Bursary Program

Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) was established to provide financial support to poor and middle-income university students whose family income is between R0 – R600,000.00 per annum in order to help them afford their tertiary institution fees.

Since its inception, ISFAP has funded over 2300 students, with contributions received from donors within the private and public sectors, including Woolworths, Liberty, Coronation, Discovery, Hollard, Sanlam, Sasol, Sappi, Mondi, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Volkswagen, and many others.

Requirements 

  • Applicants from families whose annual income is between R0 – R600 000.00 per annum.
  • The application is open to South African citizens only.
  • Applicants must be in their Matric year or have completed Matric
  • Applicant must have been accepted to study towards an undergraduate qualification, in one of the fields listed above, for the 2024 academic year
  • Applicant must be registered to study at one of the following public tertiary institutions for the 2023 academic year: University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Nelson Mandela University, Walter Sisulu University, University of Venda, Tshwane University of Technology or Central University of Technology
  • Applicants must be starting their first degree in the 2024 academic year
  • You must have a family household income NOT more than R600,000 per annum
  • Applicants must be in financial need and require funding for their studies
  • Applicant must not be a recipient of any other study funding (including NSFAS)

Application Process

  • Apply and get accepted at your University of choice.
  • Assess if you qualify based on the University you have been accepted at, and then check against the Universities we have partnered with.
  • Assess if you qualify based on ISFAP-funded degrees/programs at the University we have partnered with.
  • Check your emails regularly once you have started your application process for further engagement and application status updates.

How to Apply for ISFAP Bursary

Interested and eligible candidates from developing countries should submit their application forms online via the ISFAP Bursary application portal here before the application closing date. Applications open by May/June each year, so you can submit your application form as soon as it opens.

Application Deadline

Application runs from February to April each year. If you miss out, you can always apply the following year.
