NSFAS Online Application for 2024 – Applications are now open for all interested South Africans who wish to join the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. The application is open to all learners who wish to enter the post-school system and students who need financial assistance to continue their studies in the 2024 academic year.
NSFAS currently provides funding to millions of South African tertiary institution students annually and with the official announcement of the commencement of registration for the 2024 financial aid program the numbers are expected to increase.

NSFAS Application 2024 Opening Date
Applications for the 2024 academic section for NSFAS have already opened and interested students have been given over 70 days to submit their application forms and other required documents. Before the application closing date. As incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Areas Covered By NSFAS Bursary
The NSFAS fund covers different student needs and in some unique cases, students some students might get more support than others but some of the major coverage areas include;
Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.
UNIVERSITY
- Accommodation
As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence) - Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
- Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
- Book allowances R5200 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
TVET
- Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

Eligibility Criteria for NSFAS Online Application for 2024
Persons who meet the following criteria are eligible to submit their application;
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600,000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.

How to Apply for NSFAS 2024 Online Application
To start your application now, visit https://my.nsfas.org.za, click on Create a profile, fill in the required details, and then log into your dashboard to start your application process. Can also download the NSFAS app from the Google Play Store. You can follow the steps below for ease.
- Click on the Apply button to update your personal information
- Then proceed to upload your application supporting documents, as indicated.
- Click on the submit button to submit your application. Make sure you crosscheck all information to be sure they are correct before hitting the submit button.
NSFAS Application 2024 Documents Required
Some of the documents required for application in the 2024 NSFAS include;
- Retrenchment letter
- Death certificate/s
- Divorce Decree
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Marriage certificate
- Other documents may be required for appeal purposes,… eg retrenchment letter
These are not compulsory documents but are required if applicable to the student.
NSFAS Status Check Using ID Number
You can check your status on the NSFAS portal using your ID number after the application closes and the successful candidates are announced. You can also use the ID Number as your username if you use the NSFAS App. Follow these steps to check your status;
- Visit the myNSFAS student portal at https://my.nsfas.org.za/
- Enter your username and password, to Sign in.
- To view the status of your NSFAS application, click Track Funding Progress. This will show you your application status.
NSFAS Application 2024 Closing Date
The application closing date for 2024 applications is January 31, 2024.
