About the Teacher Assistant Programme

The SA Teacher Assistant program is a Presidential Youth Employment Initiative aimed at providing young South Africans with valuable skills and meaningful work experience. This program, which is currently in its 4th phase, offers a unique opportunity for eligible candidates to become education or general school assistants at various schools across the country. The role assigned to each applicant differs based on their academic qualification.

Requirements for SA Youth Teacher Assistant

To qualify for the PYEI teacher assistant program, applicants must meet the requirements below:

  • Applicant must be a South African resident aged between 18 – 34 years old.
  • Live within 5km of an urban school or 30km of a rural/farm school.
  • You must not have participated in any of the previous Phases of the programme.

Those applying for teaching assistant positions must also have a minimum requirement of a matric certificate, however, preference may be given to applicants with tertiary education qualifications, especially in Education.

  • Participants will receive a stipend of R4081. 44 per month

How to apply for SA Youth Teacher Assistant

Interested candidates are to follow these steps to submit their application form

  • Visit the SAYouth website at https://sayouth.mobi/
  • Register an account(You will need SA ID or Passport)
  • Log in with your details after registration
  • Type ‘school assistant’ or search for the name of the school closest to you you wish to apply for
  • A list of jobs available in your area will come up which will also include the opportunity cards for the schools that are closest to you. Only apply at schools that you have easy access to
  • Click the ‘read more’ button which will enable you to see further details about the job
  • If you are interested in the opportunity, click ‘apply now’
  • Follow the prompts and provide the relevant information to complete your application
  • You will then receive confirmation that your application has been successful

If you are shortlisted, you will receive an SMS or a phone call from the school.

You will also need the above-listed documents during your interview.
