Higher Education Students Loans Application Form 2023/2024 Now Open for Malawians

Higher Education Student (HESLGB) Loans – Following the release of names of students who have been selected to begin their higher education at various public universities by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), the Higher Education Students Loans and
Grants Board (HESLGB) has announced the opening of the 2023/24 special loan application window for newly-selected first-year students. All interested and eligible candidates should follow these steps to get started now with their application.

Before you get started with your application, it is important to note that; HESLGB stresses that loans are provided only to students who apply for the loans and are eligible. It is, therefore, essential that all needy students apply for loans if they want to be considered.

Higher Education Student (HESLGB) Loans  Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this loan, you are to meet these requirements;

• You must be a needy Malawian citizen who has been admitted into a fully accredited/registered Higher Learning Institution (private and public) as a candidate for a higher Diploma and or first degree on a full-time basis in an accredited program or course.
• Must be a student with six credits in MSCE or its equivalent upon getting admitted to a registered/accredited higher learning institution.
• Must be a continuing student who has passed the examinations necessary to enable him/her to advance to the next year or stage of study and therefore is not a mature entry, weekend program, repeating, distant learning, upgrading, and general diploma student.
• Must be a person who is not fully funded by other organizations or sources.
• Must not have attended an elite school unless there is evidence demonstrating neediness.
• Must have verifiable conduct and commitment to studies

Supporting Documents and Application Fee

All applicants must attach all relevant supporting documents to their application including;

• Copy of the applicant’s National ID with correct and relevant names or an NRB form containing the system-generated sticker
• Copy of the University/College admission letter or an extract of the press release bearing the student’s name
• Parents/ Guardian National ID
• Death certificate of parents if applicable
• Deposit slip of MK 5,000.00 non-refundable processing fee (CASH) to be deposited into the bank accounts

How to Apply for Higher Education Students Loans 

Interested and eligible candidates should download their application forms online from the HESLGB website www.hesglb.mw or here after downloading the form, read the terms and conditions, and then complete the form and submit.

Application Deadline

The deadline to apply for this loan is 11th August 2023.
